What is your one best piece of advice for a long, healthy marriage?
Married for over 43 years. Sex is great, but friendship is the cement that keeps us going with a massive infusion of humor. Our unstated goal is to make fun of every day, and work and play together. Do we always agree? Heck No, but who does. The 3 C's are the formula..communicate, compromise, and consideration. Works all the time. Jim
WEDDING ON A BUDGET The average US wedding will run about $25,000, but one that works could cost thousands less. For a $2K wedding plan, you can have a great ceremony! From homemade wedding favors to reception vases from Ross, here's how to get a stylish 100-guest wedding for under $2K. Purchase white or pink table cloths and clear vases approx. 4 inches in diameter, add water and a colored floating candle for your centerpieces. Place some ribbon, or shiny wire with hearts dangling off of it, usually found at the dollar store. You can purchase wedding supplies at the Dollar Store or Big Lots if you want to save more. Costs approx. $150..00 Stationery: Less than $150.00 You could do it yourself. Find a small online stationery company that are completely affordable, or purchase a card builder for your computer that includes the fonts you need for around $30.00 dollars. Then purchase card stock paper, envelopes included, paper will cost approx $65.00 for 100 sheets. Buy some business card stock to match and some tissue paper to cut and put into the cards. It makes it fun and people are proud that you made them yourself. Ceremony Flowers: $150 Ways to save: Find an a la carte florist to make a bridal bouquet, and then go online and order fans or parasols for your bridesmaids to carry in lieu of flowers. Ceremony: $65 If you have a place of worship, then you're all set. If not, plan a ceremony in a nearby park. Have your guests stand in a semicircle while you exchange vows and let the surroundings act as your decor. You could also search for a park with a view. (Just make sure that in the case of rain, you'd be able to use your reception space.) A park permit cost's just $25.00 and go to the county clerk's office for your marriage license for $40.00 and have a friend or loved one become ordained online for free to officiate your ceremony. Photography: $400.00 Find a photographer who offers a la carte services so that you don't have to pay for extras like editing, re-touching, and photo albums. A photographer who's running a "recession special" wedding photography package which includes four hours of shooting for approx. 400.00 Attire: $500.00 Check out nontraditional bridal lines like the ones at Target or, shop sample sales, and browse off the rack dresses at department stores. Another option: Find a bridesmaid dress that you like and get it in white. There are wedding gowns on the website starting at 99.00. The groom could wear his favorite suit and then buy a new shirt for the occasion. Food: Have your family members bring a variety of salads, and rolls, so all you have to do is purchase the meat. Total cost would be around $200.00. Cake: Have a family member that has some experience and they can make you a wedding cake, or look in your phone book for a cake decorator that would give you a good deal.
"Love is not about finding the right person, but creating a right relationship. It's not about how much love you have in the beginning but how much love you build till the end."
Love CAN be forever. You must wake up each morning asking yourself, "What can I do to make his/her day better?" Then make the conscious decision to do it sometime during that day. You'd be amazed at how big the little things are. Kim
